Area of Focus: Assessing client needs, connecting clients with a therapist

Bio Photo - Natalie Barnas.jpg

I’m Natalie - a San Diego native whose interest in therapy began with my own introspective journey towards learning more about who I am. My journey began with curiosity, and led to a windy road of questioning my thought patterns, beliefs, and trauma responses that stemmed from early experiences in childhood. We aren’t granted the opportunity to select certain experiences which can be incredibly impactful in shaping us as we continue to evolve. But these experiences don’t have to define us, or the rest of our lives. Knowledge & understanding of our pasts can illuminate the question marks about why we have carried certain behaviors or self beliefs with us. With that, acceptance can be the beginning of living differently, living more fulfilling lifestyles that we are capable of navigating ourselves and take pride in.

While psychology & therapy always intrigued me, my path to working at Tendril Therapy was not linear. My spreadsheet loving personality got me a degree from the Fowler School of Business at San Diego State University. And I then jumped into the interior design industry, worked on dream projects around San Diego, and eventually started my own design business which allows me to express my creative side and love for all things home making. My next educational goal is entering a Masters program to become a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist where I hope to instill a sense of hope that our pasts do not have to dictate our futures in each of my clients.

I also enjoy making the most of my free time and doing things I love. To me that means spending time with friends at a local coffee shop (there are too many to choose from here in SoCal). I also like to enjoy time outside whether that be something as simple as an evening walk or road tripping to a national park.

As the administrative assistant at Tendril Therapy, my role is making sure your experience receiving assistance between sessions is just as enjoyable as your time with your therapist.
