I believe that many mental health challenges emerge from spaces of unidentified and invalidated experiences of loss. When individuals are not given space to grieve the changes in their lives, the energy used to contain their emotions can manifest as symptoms of anxiety, depression, shame, guilt, or anger. By providing an opportunity to acknowledge, address, and honor their sense of loss, whether recent or historical, their accompanying symptoms are impacted as well.

 

When working with partners, the Gottman method provides a structure for both individuals to witness and learn how to better understand each other's hurts and tenderness. Additionally, I utilize interventions from EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Non-Violent Communication, and Narrative Therapy with a strong emphasis on self-compassion to help uncover the beliefs that keep trauma alive in the mind and body. The use of cognitive coping skills, breathwork, grounding techniques, rituals, and a consistent focus on grace empowers individuals to feel safe in their present while maintaining hope for their futures.

 

Given this, I am drawn to working with individuals in seasons of transition and identity development. I enjoy joining clients as they process their faith practices, upbringings, career goals, and relationships. My prior experiences have allowed me to work with an array of people spanning from children to people in mid-life. My undergraduate degree in Visual Art allows me to integrate creative modalities while my experience working at religious institutions provides me with insight on a multitude of spiritual experiences.
